Problem resetting PC - no recovery image registered

Trying to do a reset of PC, fails and tells me there was a problem resetting the PC. I go to the setupact.log and I see an error message

    Factory: No recovery image registered[gle=0x000000ea]

    However...

    reagentc /info says....

C:\Windows\system32>reagentc /infoWindows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) and system reset configurationInformation: Windows RE status: Enabled Windows RE location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition1\Recovery\WindowsRE Boot Configuration Data (BCD) identifier: 572ea965-6c58-11ea-9f70-98af65a416c6 Recovery image location: Recovery image index: 0 Custom image location: Custom image index: 0REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful.

    So why isn't it registerd'??

For background, I wiped the drives when I got it from HP and installed fresh 10 from scratch.

Agreed, but after a new install, surely that recovery partition should be recreated? Else what's the point of the "reset" feature of windows?

The RECOVERY drive at the end is one I have just made myself to point the system at a new .wim file but i shouldn't need to do that on a fresh installation of windows.

Windows 10 does not support the use of a Recovery Image...
Thus WinRE is registered - but not any image

Yes, need to clarify .... "reset" is a generic meaningless term.
    - Windows recovery ?
    - proprietary device recovery (factory default setting) ? (Absolutely NOT recommended if this was the case)
    - and/or Windows repair (often confused/interchanged with "recovery" ?

How was this attempted (steps taken) ?

You need to set it up, by pointing reagentc at the directory containing install.wim and specify the index number:
    e.g
    REAGENTC.EXE /setosimage /path j:\win10 /index 5

Problem resetting PC - no recovery image registered-setosimage1.jpg

Problem resetting PC - no recovery image registered-setosimage2.jpg

I just tested the above. It worked, but it took quite a while to do the reset.

Not generic and meaningless. It's literally what it is called.

Settings > Reset this PC > Get started > follow it through...

I shouldn't need to do that on a fresh install of Windows. It should just do the rest.

I am surprised /SetOSImage didn't notify as an unsupported command - it use to....
So has to be a recent change - as it was depicted in Windows 10
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...d-line-options

But anyway - /setosimage - and the recovery image partition was always an OEM option
It was not something Microsoft Enabled during setup

Why? How can it know what image know what image you wish to use, or where you have put it ? It is an option you can set up yourself.

Oems will sometimes do it. If you are installing the os yourself, it is up to you.

You could use the regular install.wim image, or an image you have customized.
