    Art,

Perhaps this Acronis KB article is relevant?

Acronis software: NVMe drives in RAID mode are not detected by Linux-based bootable media and Acronis startup recovery manager

The KB article implies that you need to check whether RAID or not is set in the BIOS/UEFI instead of AHCI.

If it is relevant I'd suggest posting the fact in this thread so that the others can advise you
    - I don't know anything about RAID & AHCI settings
    - The solution offered by the KB article seems to mean you can avoid having to make any changes to your computer by making a different Acronis boot disk

He could possibly clone from the installed win10.

But he would still have an acronis boot media that can't see everything. Is there something wrong with acronis, or is the boot media missing drivers? Probably the latter.
But he only wants to clone the disk. That can easily be done in Windows using Acronis.

The "boot media" issue (which really isn't the main issue) may not be an issue as at all. In other words the OP is going about it all wrong where the main issue of cloning the disk is concerned.

The OP needs to open Acronis from within Windows and see if the disk they want to clone is showing. If it is, they can then proceed with the clone.

I think there is some confusion as to what the OP is actually trying to do... and convey to us.

I think the OP has clarified that he needs to know he can rely on the Acronis boot disk to recognise the problem drive if he is ever going to be able to boot from the USB then restore an image to that drive in the future.

I've asked Acronis for a refund
    - So they weren't able to solve the problem?
    - I don't blame you for deciding to ditch Acronis given this serious issue.
    - There is lots of support for Macrium Reflect [free] in this forum so you'll have a good chance of resolving any difficulties.
    - Perhaps you could try out Macrium's boot disk to see if it can detect your problem drive and then make the decision to start using it for all your images.

    Ok, I'm really confused....

Why are you creating a bootable flash drive to clone a disk that's already installed on the machine?
Because when booting into Windows and using Acronis there - it can't see the OEM SSD.

I thought that using the bootable USB and Acronis booting through Linux, it would show up - but it doesn't there either!

There's absolutely no reason to boot from Acronis to clone a drive. Just open Acronis from the desktop and choose to clone the drive. It's what I've been doing without issue.
Not if you haven't booted into Windows!

Agreed that with Acronis installed onto a machine already, you can launch the Acronis program and clone from there. But you can't do that if you can't see the source disk!!

With that do you in fact have Acronis installed on the PC in question? If so, as stated above Open Acronis, choose the clone feature, install the source drive (the drive you want to install the clone) and follow the onscreen prompts.

    What am I missing?
Simply the fact that whether I use the ATI interface from within Windows or the 'Live' version from the USB Flash Drive - the source SSD doesn't show up!

    Really?

I'm not trying to be rude because I recognise that you are trying to help - but have you read the whole tread from post #1 or simply jumped into the party midway?

I'm crystal now. Yeah, that's a weird one there. Have you posted in the Acronis forums. As someone else noted they're usually pretty good there.

No problem. Like I said, I wasn't trying to be rude.

This has really got me puzzled.

I also don't get why some folks have suggested that it is because the laptop is missing some drivers.

Surely the SSD would encounter some problems - such as not working - if there were some drivers missing?

    Err.. no actually.

Having said that, I've kinda given up on Acronis and asked them for a refund.

Going to give Macraium Reflect a shot.

    Okay,
Problem is this. I'm using Acronis True Image to clone the OEM SSD (a 256GB drive) to another SSD. However, Acronis can't see the OEM drive - only the new empty drive.

Had this same problem with a different brand of sofware. It could not read the built in memory of a computer I bought.

I tried several other competitors and found others that worked. My suggestion is to try another brand. Marcium, Easeus, Aomei, and Mini-Tool come to mind, but there are others. Good Luck.

    UPDATE:

Well, a couple of weeks go by as the wheels of the country fall off before I try macrium Reflect (free) to clone the OEM SSD of my wife's new laptop.

    Great success!

Longest part of the job was opening up the laptop and fitting everything back together.

Cloning process took just over 6 mins - super fast.

So, a paid-for cloning solution (Acronis True Image) fell at the first hurdle (couldn't find the OEM SSD) and the freebie (Macrium Reflect) carried out the process with no major issues.

Only *slight* issue was that the new SSD had to be initialized and formatted first. After that it was simple.

DEEP BREATH before committing to cloning (always worry that I have asked the program to clone the blank destination disk onto the source disk) and that was that.

I shall be using Macrium Reflect from now on.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions, solutions and support. Thanks folks - you rock!

Macrium is the best, I just used it to image W10 to a 960, worked flawlessly.

I don`t do cloning. And it certainly didn`t help the Emperor
