Boot problem after installing Macrium

I installed the current version of Macrium free today. I ran the rescue media creator and set a Windows boot menu. I also made a boot dvd. Then made an image and verified.

I rebooted and got the boot error for an external drive. I opened the bios, exited without changes and Window booted. Each time I boot with that drive connected, I get the same message. I did remove the boot menu created using Macrium. I thought that might be the problem.

I am unsure how to fix this. Any suggestions? Thanks

Have you reviewed your boot order in BIOS?

Are USB devices prioritized above your M.2 (Assuming m.2 is your boot devices.)

Thanks for the reply.

The bios boot order looks ok.

1) windows boot manager (m.2_1 Samsung)
2) m.2_1 Samsung

If I disconnect that external HDD, windows boots normal. I am pretty sure this problem started while I was setting up Macrium.

A friend suggested the windows boot loader might be the problem. Still looking for answers.

Check whether you have an active partition on the external drive and set it to inactive if so, You can use MiniTool Partition Wizard to do this.

Or you could:
Disconnect all external drives > Start Windows > Connect external drives > go to Disk Management > Expand the window so everything can be seen > post a screenshot here

So this started, or you think it started, when you installed Macrium.

You said it happens each time you connect that external drive. Is this external drive new and did you acquire it when you implemented Macrium?

Any chance this is the WD drive?

Could you use minitool partition wizard free to look at that drive and post a screen picture, columns expanded. Watch when you install Minitool, lots of potential crap and offerings. You just want Mainitool Partion Wizard free. Take you time.

Yes it the WD. The drive is about one year old.

I am wondering if something happened when creating the bootable rescue media. Maybe I did something wrong?

Sorry, does this only happen when you boot using the rescue media?

Did you add Macrium to the boot manager such that you can boot from it or windows?
