Boot problem after installing Macrium

    Well, somewhere on the Disk there needs to be a location to store the Partition Table information.. A GPT disk can hold 128 Partitions and that information needs to be stored on Disk...
    So I believe the first reported error - based on Message - has to do with Corruption on the External GPT Disk..

    This header info can not be read - and due to not being read - the PC will not Boot Properly....

    It is a larger Disk and using the Clean & Convert GPT - may be an Issue - unless DATA is backed up and the Disk then Re-Structured

    Okay so I have news.

    I too went back to the very first post and started Google searching.

    Asus and WD (maybe just high capacity drives) is having a known issue. Yes MB may not be 100% the same but worth a read. I have to believe all Asus BIOS have some common DNA.

    Not sure how Macrium is involved or how it might have instigated this. Riley I think you said you've had this drive connected for a long time, even before Macrium use and didn't have issues. Please confirm.

    Riley have you recently updated your BIOS. Please don't but wonder if?

    Do you know if you are using the most current BIOS?

    This PC was recently built using bios version is 1401, the latest shown on Asus site.
    I have had the drive about one year, running fine on my win 7 PC. It is only connected when actually being used.
    I just started using Macrium on this PC.

    Interesting link with a suggested Fix.... GPT Auto Recovery Policy Setting or an Older BIOS version....
    Funny it seems to turn out to be a BIOS Firmware Issue...

    Actually that is good to hear that is only connected when needed.

    Backup drives that are always on and connected I call copies. What attacks the core machine attacks the backup.


    I know Macrium has Image Guard but for paid users with drives directly connected to computer. Does nothing for NAS Images.



    Might you try one of the solutions Kyhi has presented?

    I was thinking of trying the GPT Auto Recovery Policy Setting. This appears to be data safe?

    Yes it does but I couldn't find in your BIOS in manual. That doesn't mean anything, manuals get written in a point in time and from there are never updated.

    You mentioned your BIOS number, is it the latest? I did not check.

    If that doesn't work I would get on Asus forum and up vote or add your comments to one of their threads.


    Not sure I would do much more. It is sort like a safety, it is telling you your backup is connected which as I said is something I do not recommend. Of course this is your machine so my opinion is just that, my opinion.


    Would be interested in BIOS level.

    This Macrium forum entry may be related to the GPT header corruption problem.

    The fixGPT.exe may be the same or similar to Kyhi's fix earlier in the thread.
