No mouse or keyboard booting Macrium USB

Hi all. Today I decided to try Macrium Reflect Free 7.2 to try it out.

I installed it on PC#2 (System Spec #2 in my profile) and immediately after that created a Bootable Rescue USB to test to be sure I could use it to recover images if I was unable to get into windows. I used the default settings, including Windows RE (v1903).

When I boot the USB on the PC I created it from (and has Macrium installed on it) I have no mouse or keyboard.

When I boot it from 2 other PCs (System Spec #1 and a laptop) I DO get a mouse and keyboard and everything is good to go.

    Any ideas?

What mouse and keyboard? If using USB or USB Wireless you may have to ensure it/they are plugged into USB 2 ports, not USB 3 [blue]. The issue usually is no support for USB 3 until booted into an operating system while USB 2 [black] can have the BIOS set to Legacy USB and have built-in support at boot-up into any system.

Thanks for that. The mouse and keyboard are plugged into 2.0 ports, ports marked for same.

It is a Logitech wired mouse and a standard, plain vanilla Logitech corded Keyboard needing no special driver.

The USB works fine in another system with mouse and keyboard connected the same way.

Also: on the problem PC I have tried the Macrium USB in a rear MB USB 2.0 port as well as the front case port, which is USB3. No change.

I've also tried booting the USB in standard mode and in UEFI mode from the Boot Menu.

Since I created the rescue media using the Windows RE option, is it possible that the rescue environment on this one PC is the problem? Could winre.wim be corrupted?

I did go into recovery environment (Shift> Restart) on the problem PC and the mouse and keyboard both worked there.

I would try recreating your rescue disk with one of the other base wim's ie PE10 or PE5 to see what happens.

    I will, probably this weekend.

A few threads on Macrium's forum with people saying that they got no M&K with the RE build but using PE10 worked, and others saying no M&K with PE10 build but RE build solved it!!

Yes - strange how sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But you could also build one of @Kyhi's recovery environments, which I have test on numerous systems, has its own built it network support and has never failed. Also it includes Macrium Reflect.

    WORKS !

    Good suggestion. Thanks.

I am testing to see if I like Macrium Free enough to switch from Acronis TI. They are offering me a discount to upgrade to the latest version and I have to decide soon. Acronis boot stick and CD works without issue. These things should not be an issue.

I believe that KHYI recovery environment also includes Acronis.

Tried to create a WinPE 10 stick. After downloading the 940mb file it then asks for:
"Creating rescue media will require a 205KB download from Microsoft" > Download.
The download starts but never finishes and becomes a loop.
Macrium forums say this is do to interference from AV. Tried disabling AV and still get the loop.

Very frustrating experience. It does not look like Macrium Reflect is going to work for me.
