Macrium Reflect vs Acronis

yesterday Acronis failed to restore the image , no matter what it constantly telling there is a problem restoring the image and the Acronis GUI is very buggy and slow, i am not gonna use it again. Ill continue using Macrium reflect.

I agree the GUI takes a long time to load. I have been using ATI for 6 years. I have used ATI 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021 perpetual license. Various versions have had bugs but none critical. I have used both file and disk restores over the years but have never had an error doing that.

I do a full plus a limited number incremental backups and then restart the process. I have a big enough external disk do have more than one full backup. That way if one restore were to fail I could try another older one.

Which version of Acronis True Image are you talking about? Also, after one backup restore failed did you have another older one to try?

Backup software should NEVER fail anyway !!
You should rely on its restore-operations in all possible circumstances.............!
Thats why I dumped this bloated Acronis and went for ( the best you can get !!) Macrium , this one never failed to me !!

I used ATI 2021 and i had a backup from Macrium Reflect which were 30 mins older than the failed ATI 2021 backup! So i restored from MR without any problem. ATI 2021 does not even show lot of information about the error encountered.

ATI 2021 just had an update on March 11, 2021 (Build 39184). If you haven't totally given up you might want to try it. If you do I suggest you do a test backup and restore to see if works any better.

You might also try turning off Active Protection "permanently" if you don't want or need it.

BTW, I run ATI 2021 on 3 computers. The only real problem I had was that the computers would not go back to sleep after a backup finished. That problem was fixed with ATI 2021 Build 39184.

I also use ATI 2021 to back up my cell phone.

There's an excellent solution for that, it works even after you pour gasoline on the computer and set in on fire.

By far the easiest way to avoid those bugs─that I agree have never been any critical ones─has always been to just use the bootable CD instead of installing the program, but these days I use the bootable WinRE based AcronisBootablePEMedia.iso that you can create with the Bootable Media Builder, after which you can still choose to uninstall the program if you, like me, prefer to always use the bootable ISO.

Same here. The number of incremental ones I do is usually only one, sometimes two.

I have a big enough external disk do have more than one full backup. That way if one restore were to fail I could try another older one.

I have 37TB of external HDD capacity. But a full image of my Windows partition that also includes my software installations usually takes up much less than 150GB so, I could create a full image every night during the next six months and still not have to delete any. But I use an old pair of EMTEC SpeedIN' S600 256GB USB 3.0 flash drives because it's easier to grab them on my way out if the gasoline trick goes pear shaped.

If the image verification was set to enabled during the image creation process, then it shouldn't matter which version of True Image was used to create it, and, if the WinRE based or the WinPE based bootable rescue media fails to restore the image, then there's still always the (non WinRE based non WinPE based) Linux based bootable ISO (what they call the 'Full' rescue media) that works also without needing to purchase a license from Acronis, and that can be downloaded from here:
