Question about Macrium Reflect Differential Backup

Hi. Macrium Reflect free allows 4 differential backups per full backup. If I have a full backup and 1 differential backup and I want to make a second differential backup, does it matter if I make it from the 1st differential backup or from the full backup? Thanks in advance for any replies. Running Windows version1909.

Hi, a differential image is created with reference to the first larger slower initial image and represents the changes with respect to that.

If you have 2 differential images d1, d2 and a corresponding full initial image i, you thus have 3 possible dates to which you can restore the imaged partitions:
    i
    i+ d1
    i+ d2

If you create a backup job when you create your first image, all you have to do is click this:

Note the number retained is up to you to configure: e.g.

As Dalchina says, a Differential is all the differences since the Full image was made. You need the Full image and one Differential to do a restore.

Incremental is a Premium feature in the 'paid for' version. An Incremental is just the differences since the last Incremental. For a restore you need the Full image and all Incrementals up to and including the one from the date you wish to restore to.

Thanks for both of your replies. If I wanted to do a complete image restore I assume I just have to click on Restore Image on the Differential backup. Is this correct?

    Yes.

If you have made a full image, followed by one or more differentials, then you can restore back to any of the available dates by picking the relevant differential for the restore.

Thanks, Bree. That fully answers my question.
