    Macrium Reflect clone question

    Hi,
I just cloned a 500gb disk to another disk of the same size using v7.2.4601. Clone finished fine, both disks boot ok, however the disk utilization is much higher on the source disk. 297gb(source) vs 64gb(target) - Wondering what did not get copied, or what is using up that disk space on the source? I did a Windows Explorer search for large files and did not find any suspects...

Hi, given the disks are the same size, was this a true clone- i.e. no resizing, nothing remaining from before- sadly and confusingly, for example 'cloning' is also used of copying an installation to a smaller disk for example.

Suggest you look at the partitions and check the partition sizes are identical on the two disks, and then use e.g. Wiztree (free) to identify where space has gone.

Here you can see some red squares - space due to dmp files and VirtualBox (virtualisation). (Your colours will be different as they are configurable).

Macrium Reflect, like other programs, offers an Intelligent Copy cloning operation, however, that much difference means a whole lot of something did not get copied. System Restore Points and other similar in-house saves are not copied, page and hibernate files are not copied. I'm wondering what was supposed to get copied and didn't.

I suppose if there were a LOT of dmp, log and tmp files etc..but a pictorial comparison could help.

Thanks for the tip; i have run wiztree - the missing files are230gb, 47 files located in c:\System Volume Information. These are system restores? System restore only shows two recovery points?
I have deleted all the RP's and lowered the maximum space. Fixed!
