thanks for all the info topgun. I don't have a problem with space, so them, meaning x and y volumes, being there doesn't bother me. What I can't figure out is what is assigning the letters to them. As I mentioned, I've been using MR for years and never have they popped up when I open MR. Something has to be triggering it if MR's not doing. Just don't know but thanks again.
You can try to look in the task manager->Startup to see what processes are running at startup, also look in the shechuler and narrow down the problem. You are right about something is triggering it but not Macrium.
Just opened MR today and only the OS partition had a letter C assigned to it. All the other partitions had "none." Have no idea why.
update:
2 hours later the x and y letters reappeared. I give up.
