System Restore - AppX Staging Error

Anyone know how to solve this issue which blocks restoring a restore point? Kinda of makes it pointless to create one if it can't restore it at a later date.

I had this a while ago and ended up reinstalling windows, I then discovered it again while troubleshooting a different issue.

    Details:
System Restore failed while restoring the directory from the restore point.
    Source: AppxStaging
    Destination: %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApps
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore.

What AV are you running. Saw someone having issues and I think they were using a third party. Try disabling / removing.

Time to upgrade to Imaging your system. Split data from system/programs. Run weekly system images. Restore as required.

    Only have Defender

I've thought before about having a C for just Windows and putting everything else on a different drive but haven't got round to it. I have Macrium but doing that isn't as convenient as rolling back after a dodgy install. Can't be backing up 100s of GBs every time I install a new program

Hear you. I do it weekly on a schedule.

Purchased version allows for Image Guard so if you leave backup connected other things (viruses, ransomware) can't change.

If you buy you can do incrementals and then you just point to the day you want to restore too. So weekly backup with daily incrementals.

With defender do you have controlled folder access enabled?

    Nope haven't got that enabled.

I find it so bizarre that it can mess itself like that when I have done nothing to that folder at all.

And it's done it twice on two different installs

Sorry. Not sure where to go with Restore Points.

I would really look at System Imaging. Once a week plug in a little external drive, double click a shortcut and walk away, say at end of day.

I do hope another member has a solution to the restore points issue you are currently experiencing.
