"Still have to find out how to solve that, though."

The Macrium User Guide (Ver 7_2), seems to imply that for Automatic System Restore, you have to create an image of drive C:\ only.

    Page 520...
    Automatic System Restore
    ....
1 Start Macrium Reflect, select 'Image this partition only...' for drive C

I don't know for sure, having never used the Automatic function, but perhaps that is the reason why you are getting the error on Auto-Restore, as your screenshot of the restore .mrimg seems to be contain all partitions on the main disk.

(The User guide could be made a little more clearer if that is indeed the case).

Win10trial, press on with MR, your experience with it will become smoother. Me? I use both MR and Image for Windows, both had learning curves, however things are going pretty smoothly now. And the other utilities mentioned by others are excellent choices for a 2nd backup/restore utility.

I had a problem today trying to Clone a SSD to another SSD same size and make. It cloned everything but The Boot Menu, so I had to use EaseUSPartition Master 13.8. it did the job.

Curious- if you clone an entire disk, how did it miss it? Or did you not actually clone but copy selected partitions?

@moderators: changed status from "Solved" to "Unsolved"

But looking at your screenshots, it is not the restore as such that's failing. It is the automatic restore that's failing to find the marker file or the image to restore. As you say, it seems to think the source and destination are the same.
    .....
Hi @Bree, it turns out that that which MR calls 'Source' is the source from which the backup originally was made. (Which, although confusing at first glance, is logical bc you want to know which backup files you want to restore.) So that is correct.

I'd try booting from a Macrium rescue usb to attempt the restore, thereby side-stepping the errors seen when attempting to start the restore from within Windows.
I did try the Rescue usb but it gave the same outcome: MR does not show the (GPT2 disk's) B: partition in a list of available drives. Why??

Macrium restore failed: Error 100-mp-pe-1.jpgMacrium restore failed: Error 100-mr-pe2.jpg

    My disks:
    Macrium restore failed: Error 100-mr1.png

Unfortunately I'm no good on matters regarding boot, mount, diskpart, etc.

What can I do to make MR 'see' the B: partition after booting into PE-mode?
