    Windows 10's Backup - comparison?

    Hello,

is Windows 10's Backup able to compare the files of the internal drive with the filse on an external USB disk and only copy new + modified files to the external backup disk?

Or is it only able to copy files to an external drive and that's it, no comparison?

If that's so, what do you use for comparison-backup? I was thinking FreeFileSync...

I'm using Macrium Reflect Free edition for monthly images of my whole internal disk but for daily or weekly data file/folder backups, I'd like something fast and simple.

Thanx for any tips in advance. :)

FreeFileSync is quite good, but I gave up on it due to an unnecessarily complex interface.

I've used SyncBackFree for 2 or 3 years.

Lots of control over when, what, where, etc. It's got a busy interface, but it's intuitive enough that you should be able to figure it out.

I run it 2 or 3 times a day on about 90,000 files. Takes about 90 seconds.

There are likely simpler programs like maybe Karen's Replicator, but I haven't used it. Second Copy is excellent, but not free after 30 days.

I've long since given up on the built-in tools, so can't tell you about their capabilities.

    Thank you for your reply.

Alongside Macrium Reflect Free and now adding FreeFileSync, I was thinking of using another imaging software - so why not the Windows' integrated solution?

Is anyone here using Windows 10's own (well, Windows 7's own) System Image Backup? Are you happy with it, does it work as it should?

I gave up using it when Microsoft broke it in the 32-bit version of 1803, never fixing it until the release of 1809

1803 creating a system image fails with RPC server error 0x800706BA

Even Microsoft have given up on it, recommending you use something (anything) else.

We recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors.

If your looking for another free solution, look at AOMEI Backupper -> AOMEI Software: Data Backup & Restore, Hard Drive Partition, Disk Clone
Its a bit faster on FULL image backups vs Macrium, but is painfully slower on Incrementals.
