Sytem Restore points frequently disappearing

I've yet to detect a pattern but this is getting very annoying. Just went into System Protection to check if the several SRs that were there a week or so ago are still present - and they're not. I've had several reboots and Win 10 updates in that period, but they always used to survive those, as they are of course meant to.

All settings are OK, with 5% max (11.85 GB) is allowed. Normally I only look when I hit a serious problem and want to restore to a recent date, but now I'm feeling I need to check every day.

I've done some research but so far found no relevant explanation. All suggestions would be much appreciated please.

I added a fresh SR and was surprised to see (from Configure) that it was a mere 25 MB in size. Seems very small, considering my C: SSD is 256 GB and a Macrium image is 150 GB? What exactly is an SR saving?

A restore point provides limited protection - poorly documented- of
- the registry
- driver changes
- program changes
- Windows update changes

A base disk image is a compressed copy of the used part of the disk. That's all the files.

A SR pt will vary in size from one to another, because it represents the changes in certain specific things between two dates.

A differential disk image represents the changes in all clusters that have changed between 'now' and when the corresponding base image was created.

So a SR point could be relatively small if few changes in the limited areas it protects.

As per my recent posts in the long sygnus21 thread, I'll continue the discussion about my own SR issue here. Mr Bear's seem similar to the problems I raised in November in this thread. If they diverge significantly later then we can return to separate threads.

I tried the following steps yesterday (22/1/20). One or more may be redundant. Their effect, if any, remains to be tested, more of which later.

1. Set up a new entry in Task Scheduler so that an SR would be created at each startup. (Infrequent in my case as I run 24/7.) I used the instructions here.

2. Changed the registry value RPGlobalInterval to 2 days by entering 172800 secs. I used the instructions here.

3. Changed a registry setting for "...creating automatic restore points on Windows 10 every day." I used the instructions here.

4. As a long shot, prompted by posts in the sygnus21 thread implicating Acronis, I posted in the Macrium forum here.

I rebooted this morning to ensure those hacks above were applied properly. At the moment there are now two SR points accessible, both 'System' types: 21/1/20 and 23/1/20.

I will probably now add a manual SR point and monitor this trio. My next weekly full Macrium image is scheduled for 26/1/20 and, if the three (or more) survive until them, I'll be particularly keen to see if the image creation causes any deletions.

For the record, you did catch jphughan's explanation on Macrium's ability to delete restore points, right?

Yes. Did you see that I plan to test that explicitly?

I missed it but I got you now. I'll wait to see what you post for results.
