Good experience. Now put the HDD in a case and use it to store backup images of the OS on the SSD (you should have the OS and data in separate partitions).

Yeah, although free users cannot participate in the Macrium Reflect Forum, they can read it and you will find a lot of advice anyway. One really good point is if the issue is identified and fixed for paid users, the free users get the upgrade as well. As far as I know, there is no difference between the free and paid version i.e. you have the same version but you cannot access the premium version without a paid licence. You have to give credit for a company willing to extend their support to free users and not ask for dosh. Their basic philosophy is people will buy the premium version if they see the company has excellent support.
Actually, in addition to the access for a year to premium support, there are several features in Home that aren't available in Free. See this link for some review/comparison:
Macrium Software | 5 reasons to upgrade to Macrium Home Edition
But cereberus is right to this extent: You do not have an inferior product for imaging, cloning, or restoration in any sense if you stick with the Free version. It's great software.
One additional point, though: Many members here have chosen to buy the Premium license not because they needed the extra features (see above link), but because they want to support the outstanding work of the Macrium team. Hard work on great software costs money, and I want my dime in the pot when the available assets are counted. Nobody thinks you should feel guilty if you choose to use the Free version forever. But if you ever decide to buy into the project, I can't imagine that you'll ever regret having done so.
Any user can download the free trial, and it is absolutely that - free. Then they can try the premium version with no obligation. If you choose not to partake of the paid features after 30 days, it reverts to the free version.
The two best paid features (imo) are incremental backups, and the truly awesome Rapid Delta Restore.
Here is the crucial point - if you create a backup with the trial version (or paid version), the backups are identical i.e. the free version will restore any image made during the trial period.
The only thing you should be scared of by doing the trial is that you like it so much, you will definitely want to pay for the premium version LOL.
Look this was suppose to be a one time use thing, clone and get out. Now I find myself wanting to purchase, it was that good, darn you wiz take that spell off me.
