    Hi,
I have a complete backup image made with the free version, if now that I have the full version I make a differential backup, does this also change the full older backup?
In the sense, in addition to being able to do the restore of the last backup then including the differential, Can I also restore the old full backup ignoring the differential?
    I hope I have explained :)

Free or paid, the backups are identical, as is how you restore them.

There is no need to restore the images one by one. Typically you'd select the latest Differential or Incremental to restore, Macrium will then automatically include the original Full and any other images in the backup set that it requires.

If you have a Full followed by a series of Differentials and/or Incrementals, then you can choose to restore an image from any point in time just by selecting the appropriate image to restore.

Say you have a Full from 1st October, then Incrementals for 1st November and 1st December. Just select the image for the date you want to restore to. Selecting the November one to restore will restore the PC as it was in November, selecting the Full will just restore the October image.

It's perfect, thanks a lot for your explanation :)

Recently I raised a problem with Macrium on a backup not running on schedule. It has resulted in three issues.

The power state is not being detected properly (the laptop was plugged in), no notification was issued for the missed backup and if a backup was missed because of power state the option to run as soon as possible was not being honoured. Apart from the error where it does not detect the correct power state the other two items will be fixed in future releases. I was using the Macrium Task Scheduler.

    Their most recent email.

    Hi Ken,

You're right - there is something else going on. Based on follow-up testing, there is another issue where, if the scheduler skips a backup because it detects that the system is running on AC power, it will not automatically run the backup once the power is plugged back in, even if the "Run task after a scheduled start is missed" checkbox is checked. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. A fix for this issue will be released in the next update to Reflect.

When I hear back about the the detection of the power state I will post.

If you are using a laptop with the Macrium scheduler and email notifications it might be worth checking your log for the completion status.

    Hi, Ken.

I've experienced some of the same things; backup consistently fails with no notification that it failed. When I checked the log, I found that no backups whatsoever had been made. Manual backups also failed.

I have since done a clean install, with a clean install of Macrium. So far, I haven't tried again; too much has been going on to have any amount of time needed for same. Hopefully, I will be able to set it up this afternoon.

Oh my gosh! That is alarmingly scary! I hope my backups are completing. Leaves me wondering. I have trusted macrium for a very long time.

Wynona's case, though real, is rare. Lots of variables. Macrium is highly reliable, you can trust it to be doing your backups. Occasionally check the logs, look at the actual image results by Mounting it and exploring. Will bring your confidence level back to normal.

For what it's worth, I've just restored a full image I made 2 days ago. Some software was misbehaving for some unknown reason - now all is the way it was before. Macrium Reflect Free - latest version.

    A manual backup - I don't use scheduled backups.

Nor do I. Takes 3 1/2 minutes with verify on a 30GB system that condenses to 16GB. I'm a backup freak.

It takes a little bit longer on my pc, but it has always worked when I've done a restore.
And by a little bit longer, I mean 22 minutes longer. But it works.
