Yes, MR was quick to the fix. After I reported it on their Forum, Nick and Jamie from their staff responded and had a patch out in short order. They are very good with their support.

This is a huge thread. I hope you don't mind getting me up to speed with a recap.
I've been using Macrium free for quite some time now. I settled on it after trying the other popular alternatives in its category.
When it's working right, and it usually has been, it couldn't be simpler or more effective for what I need.
I can only remember 2 bumps in the road along the way, including the current one

For me, the above has been the case since after Macrium Reflect Free Edition v7.2.4539 - 18th November 2019. After build 4601 just now failed on me, I reverted back to v7.2.4539, the last version with which I can successfully create a boot menu and rescue media.
I'm pretty sure I can still backup and restore.
Is everybody having the same problem with build 4601, or just some of us. Or should I just not be concerned about it until they get it fixed?
Is this still the solution/workaround if I reinstall build 4601?
Also, I'm not familiar with unmount/dismount. Is this for opening backups to extract files, etc. or something like that? Is it available for the free version?
I just built an rescue ISO file with build 4601 with no problems.
Your problem, kitpzyxmsir, is that you're trying to create WinPE Rescue Media, when you should be creating WinRE Rescue Media. Beginning with Windows 7, Microsoft removed WinPE and added WinRE as explained below.
Obviously, you know how to create a Rescue Disk, so, I'll just go from there.Rescue media and Windows PE/RE
If you lose your Windows operating system, you can start your PC using Macrium Reflect rescue media on CD, DVD, or USB stick. This makes creating rescue media the first thing you need to do with Macrium Reflect. It contains a bootable, lightweight version of Windows and a full version of Macrium Reflect.
This lightweight version of Windows is called the Windows Recovery Environment (also known as Windows RE or WinRE) and is supplied with Windows 7 and later operating systems. For Windows XP, Vista and systems without WinRE, Reflect will download the Windows Pre-installation Environment (also known as Windows PE or WinPE) directly from Microsoft.
Note that the Rescue Media Settings in the above screenshot show Windows RE. When you open your Macrium Rescue Media Builder, I'm sure you see Windows PE. You need to change PE to RE. At the very bottom, you see buttons for Help, Advanced, Build, Close. Click on Advanced and you will see:
Note that the first button at the top of Advanced Options is Choose Base WIM. If you don't see a replica of the above screen shot, clicking on Choose Base WIM will get you there. Now, highlight Windows RE and click on OK at the bottom of the screen and you should be on your way!

kitpzyxmsir,
You have told 2 fails with Macrium Free (or Home?).
But don't you agree that for a novice it is essential a Zero fail, even if Macrium Team resolve bugs in 2 days (as someone has said here)?
And about Acronis? (Last version they say their user interface is a little better (maybe marketing, of course, as all softwares industry make).
Believe me: there are reviews sites some say Acronis is very easy, and too easier for making bootable than Macrium, and more reliable.
And there are others sites saying just the opposite. Even a person here (I cant remember his name) has said he prefers do not use any software, ande abaout 15 minutes he ca get from Microsoft the W-10.
What you have explained is not for novices, newbies,
I've never opened the box where there are the compontents - MO, DD. etc), I always solicitate tothe unique techinitian I vve had found in Recife city, Brazil (99% of T.I. or said Technitian here are just curious - I just have a very little of knowlledge (using Qwant search and Google).
If you all could tell me some reliable reviews sites, I thank you so much (There is an enormous paid or suspected "reviews" sites on softwares and doubts that are not reliable, it is necessary to be a Guru fo note notice those sites are paid and their people in discussion.
Also, there is a lot of Forums with all Macrium, other with Terabyte, and so on.
Hi folks
Just installed the latest update on a W10 VM (the latest insider preview).
Taking an Image even over a Network can be Bonkersly fast these days == those people who never backup their systems don't deserve any help !!!!!!!!!
Image from with the VM running on bog standard HDD (although on RAID 0 so gives a bit of speed to the HDD) restored to an xfs (a linux file system) formatted SSD attached to Host via sata-->usb connector and mounted to the VM as a Network drive did the entire thing in around 11 mins. !!! The VM nic adapter and the internal Windows I/O on the VM were the win-virtio paravirtualised drivers so I was getting near bus speeds over a network between VM and Host.
Read will be slower than write in this case as Read is coming from Spinners.
Still shows Macrium is pretty impressive -- Windows installation size approx 45 GB.
Was testing so I could run unattended backups to a NAS server.
Macrium --I'm Impressed -- plus great customer service too. Well done guys over there at Macrium.
Cheers

Hi Winona,
Right you are. Thank you. Soon as I switched to Win RE, everything went back to normal.
Maybe someone could explain my confusion as to why the Win RE is not the default option.
Hello HumbertoH
With all due respect, I must disagree for several reasons.
First, there is no perfection. There is no such thing as Zero fail. And I get this product for free. Under those circumstances, I can hardly complain. If I don't like it, I can go elsewhere.
Second, I never said 2 fails. I said bumps in the road. One of these alleged bumps was this one about Wim RE, which was easily and thoroughly explained by Winona. The other was an issue with a Macrium update that was soon dealt with. One of the many great things about Macrium is it's reliability, but if there is a "bump in the road", just revert back to a previous version that was working for you. Problem solved.
I don't want to disparage Acronis. I stopped using it years ago because I couldn't rely on it for various reasons. It needed further refinement and development. I have no reason to doubt it's improvement since then, but I can't speak for it currently.
Since then I've tried the leading competitors in this category, and I settled on Macrium, hands down, and never looked back. If you take the time to learn how to use it (it's not complicated), it couldn't be simpler, faster or more competent, IMHO.
