I prefer to get my Macrium installers direct from Macrium. That 5mb file is the Download Agent. When you run it, untick 'Run installer directly after downloading' and click the Options button. That way you can download and save the full installer, with or without the PE components. Personally I prefer it without PE, and use RE when making the recovery media.

Best practice with all software is to obtain it direct from the vendor whenever possible (rare it's not available, unless really old). Especially something that is a Tier 1 package for you.

Agreed, Bree. And you've just presented me with another gem. However, since I went the "default" route before and used the Download Agent/Run installer directly . . . and things seem to have turned out right, why did I need to get the full installer? Is it because I can choose from the list of options? Or is there another reason?

Either way, Wynona, the install process will download the full installer into USER\downloads\Macrium folder. It's about 104MB.

It can be run from there, if desired. Convenient if you have multiple machines to do. DL once, and copy it.

I just keep a copy of ReflectDLHF.exe in with all my Macrium Reflect stuff.
When a new version comes out running it will always download the latest installer.
No need to even go to their web site.

    peace

You can still choose from the list of options even if you intend to leave the box ticked to run the installer immediately after downloading. I just choose to run it a little later, or on another machine.

I download the installer just the once (well twice actually, for 32-bit and 64-bit) then use it to install on multiple machines as and when I need to.

As an aside to all these discussions, I used to delete the WinRE partition on my 32GB emmc laptop to save a bit of space, but I discovered Macrium WinRE will not work which was a pity as I wanted the WiFi backup option.

I now keep the partition as backing up over wi-fi is more convenient for me albeit it is rather slow.

Interestingly, my latest clean install was 1909 on a legacy MBR system. No seperate WinRE partition was created, rather WinRE was placed in the hidden C:\Recovery folder. Macrium found it there and used it to make the recovery media.
