MR would have to keep a library of every possible RE for every version of Windows. The RE in your OS is built for your installation, that's why it uses that, if available. Otherwise you DL the appropriate PE you need/want.
    Ahhhhhh, makes sense, TC.

Otherwise you DL the appropriate PE you need/want.
And risk messing things up? Not on yer life!

Thanks again, Keith. I checked and Add WiFi Support is already checked along with a sub option, Copy profiles to automatically connect to WiFi.

I'm pretty sure I never went that far in depth on Macrium to actually see this, much less check it!

    Lots more 'sploring to do!

    Would most people use Wi-fi?

That assumes you are connecting to a backup or restore on a NAS or USB drive attached to router.

Maybe other are using using this differently, something for me to learn.

No, you are right Ken. If you have ethernet attached NAS or are just backing up to a USB drive you don't need it, that's why I have it unticked.

Can't imagine making a full backup (with verify) or restoring 250+GB's of data over a wireless connection. Maybe if it was AC wireless and you were sitting next to router. That being said if you buy one of those ultra thin laptops with no wired NIC you don't have much choice. (yes you could buy usb adapter)
I think it depends on how fast one's WiFi is, Ken. I have 50 mbps so it isn't all that bad to back up my laptops. However, my desktop is hard wired to my router, so things go as fast as possible. I know this is slow compared to some, but it works for me. One thing in my favor is that as a retiree, I can get online and wait if things are slow. I generally don't do any heavy lifting WiFi wise from 6:00 to 10:00 PM.

BTW, my router is on top of my (real) desk right behind my dual monitors and the farthest I'm away from it is maybe 15 or 20 feet when I use a Lappy in my living room.

Hadn't thought of that, Ken. Guess I'm just hedging my bets. It was automatically ticked and I'm leaving it alone. I don't think it eats very much.

You backup the laptops over wi-fi to a shared storage device?

It can be comparable to using a usb HDD, particularly if you only have usb2 ports available (max. 480Mb/s, 60MB/s). With a 5GHz WiFi adapter you're more likely to find the speed of the shared drive is the limiting factor, not the WiFi speed.

    Hmmm, which poses another question:

Can I create a NAS (or backup computer) from an extra, fairly hefty computer to hold my backups?

I tried backing up my wife's with N-class and it took forever. Went to AC dongle, still takes a long time. (backup and verify)

Synology DS918+ NAS so no limitation there.
