The general public doesn't make bootable media, most fail to do backups of any type and so will go on not knowing that anything happened. Does the screen light up, does the keyboard work, I'm okay.

    A good question TC.

I hope he, or she, reads this thread or threads like it and will be informed. Maybe even the odd tech news letter.

I imagine, and I could be way off base, before the actual revocation occurs Macrium will announce an updated and in those release notes they will advise everyone to recreate their media with a reference to the MS KB. At least that is what I would do if I were heading up support.

Of course this approach will only work for their licensed 8.1 clients. Their will be no updates for 6, 7 or 8.0. Maybe they just fool their update system to send a message.

Today I enabled the May 9th changes for revocation on a laptop with secure boot enabled. I ensured the July 11, 2023 MS updates were installed. Checked event manager and event 1035 was listed, manual updates for revocation installed. ( did the two restarts, one 5 minutes after the first.)

I removed the boot menu option for Macrium (V8.7279, the last free version) and then re-installed boot menu.

To build rescue media, boot menu, I press CRTL and clicked on "Build" using Windows RE V2004. I then clicked on Force rebuild wim. Boot menu installed. Test booted to Macrium from boot menu successfully.

Created USB thumb drive, first I quick formatted thumb drive, and it too tested successfully.

So Macrium, V8 with Win RE 2004 works if you follow all the instructions.

Thanks to hsehestedf, Bree and Ghot. I used tips from each of them and likely others.

    Thanks @Caledon Ken
Did you tried this by yourself?
Or is this an official guide published somewhere?
If yes, where is the source?

Yes I made the changes to one of my devices as I outlined. No I didn't do this by myself from a knowledge perspective, I read the KB and the various threads on Elevenforum. I also asked questions. (Sometimes in the wrong thread.)

    The KB.

    An informative thread.

Can't find it now but Ghot had mentioned he erased his thumbdrive so when recreated it was fresh. I took this a step further and removed boot menu to get same effect. Ghot very well did mention erasing both.

Bree, in another thread I can't pin down, advised us all about holding the CRTL down, clicking "Build" to get the "Force Wim Rebuild". (Likley both of these tips were in the 11 thread "Latest Macrium")

The KB instructs you on how to apply the change manually. MS eventually will do this for you when they enforce the changes. I believe this is expected in early 2024.

The KB and the threads mention mention the SafeOS phase and to get that you must have installed the July 11, 2023 updates.

You will also see as you read the information the media creation tools from MS now create media that is bootable with the change enforced. In the thread it mentions the level for 11, 22621.1702, and I asked hsehestedt for Windows 10. It is 19042.2965. (Confirmed, that is what the Media creation tool is creating.)

The event viewer event numbers are also listed in the thread. While my post was shortened, look for event 1035 in the System section under windows log.

You will also observe as you read through the thread that it mentions Macrium Knowledge base.

I applied the change early as I support a large number of Macrium free devices using Windows 10 and I wanted to see it for myself.

The real take away, in my opinion, is to rebuild all your bootable media now. This is Windows iso's, Windows thumb drives created by Media Creation tool, Macrium bootable media and any other tools you own that you boot from.

As cereberus posted in the "Latest Macrium" thread on 11, should it go wrong for any of us, shut off secure boot until you resolve. The "Latest Macrium" thread on 11 is also worth reading and watching ( for revocation change you could pick it up in the July 2023 timeframe. )

As always there are a ton of people here that will help which makes this a great forum.

Maybe someone could post the correct link to the, what I will call the, "Revocation Impacts to Macrium" so we can let this thread get back to its real purpose, announcing new versions of Macrium. (There I've been told, I'm off topic LOL)

And I've deleted my quote of that post

Microsoft are (quite rightly) taking a slow and cautious approach, the enforced deployment will start no sooner than July 9, 2024. The KB is continually being updated, so much so that it has its own Change Log.
