    Thanks Bree.

So if I'm understanding your experience, until you actually did the upgrade on a machine the old V7 keys kept the functionality of the license.

How long was it before you did the last machine upgrade. You had four licenses, did it take a week..

( I'll bet you knocked them off pretty fast.)

My situation was that I got two good v8 keys and two incorrect keys. On trying a bad key it turned out to be someone else's v7 key. I then tried to go back to my original v7 key to find that it was no longer recognised as a valid key by the registration server. I had to restore a Macrium image to get back to a licensed and working v7 Home on that machine.

It took about a week to get the rest of my correct v8 keys. During that time none of the v7 Home installs had any complaints about not being licensed any more. As I said, it appears that once a key has been validated by the Macrium registration server at the time the key is installed, then Reflect never checks the key's validity again.

I still have Macrium 7 free and it told me there was an update today (7.3.6391) but when I try to update it it wants to update me to Macrium 8. How do I get the version 7 update?

The update issue appears to have been fixed now. Checking for updates in Reflect v7 will now download the correct v7.3.691 update.

Thanks so much for the update Bree. I have decided to go with v8, but at least I now know I can revert to v7 and be updated if I wish.

You're welcome. You shouldn't have any problems with v8, I use it on all my other machines bar that one that has too small a display to cope with it. The image format hasn't changed so there's no issues in mounting or restoring a v7 or v8 image using either Reflect v8 or v7.

If I remember correctly, I bought a 4-pack of V.7 with the right to upgrade to V.8 when it came out. Once V.8 came out, my V.7 keys were no longer valid.

I believe the keys are only good for the version you bought them for unless you fork out more for an upgrade or they said you'd get an upgrade when you bought them. I'm sure one of the Macrium Guru's here will confirm soon

Try this: Macrium Software | Upgrades/Renewal Wizard

If I pay the upgrade (less than full) price to upgrade from V.7 to V.8, I give up the right to V.7. However, if I pay the full price of V.8, I can still keep using V.7.

Just the same as it is for Windows . . . pay the upgrade price and give up the right to the older version. Pay full price and you still own the license to the older version. Of course that's the way it used to be. Now, if you get the free upgrade, you give up the right to the older version. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Interesting ....... I just bought a v8 4-pack, so I have lots of learning to do about all this.

You know about the 50% off BF sale, I presume: Macrium Software | Black Friday
