" each machine has its own boot media ".........is the best choise !
    I wonder if I can use a WinRE 1809 boot-CD ,x64 , which I got from a friend , on a non-RE machine ( no recovery-partition on it )...............or do you have to use a WinPE-CD in that case ??

This is not dependent on what is on machine.

The operating system code is read from the bootable media.

Then Macrium as the app uses the OS to initiate / run.

Remember the Boot media is meant to be use in a complete disaster, nothing on PC storage device.

" I use on three machines "............so, you use the same resque-media for three ( different ?) PCs ??

... that said I have booted machines with rescue media not specifically built for them. It worked but I think the machines were generic enough that I got lucky.

I tend to use the same rescue usb to boot any of my machines. I haven't yet found one that won't boot successfully and be able to restore or backup. The generic drivers MS include in WinRE or WinPE seem to be sufficient for most machines.

Off subject, but have you tried using the wrap-in-quotes function when quoting part of a post? It may be easier and it's certainly easier to read and follow. Just asking.

That's very reassuring because I only use the same rescue media on USB for both of my machines. Before I use to do a different rescue media specific to each machine. Not anymore...BTW, I haven't used my MR rescue media in a while, since I will call upon it only if something bad happens to my PCs. I think it is time for a test drive especially that V.8 has just come out.

In my experience, if you can boot a PC with rescue USB/disk you can restore backup to it. No need for separate rescue USB/disk for every machine. There's even an option to deploy to different hardware, ability to recognize if it's SSD or HDD and to trim SSD before transfer.
