I assume it is the version you downloaded when you install Macrium and download PE for first time.
I've used even older version.
Macrium code needs some fundamental operating system code to initiate and run. Basic stuff.
" I've used even older version. "...........soooo , nothing to worry about ! (??)
I think that's what the quoted assertion in Post # 1790 (...PE version will be defaulted) meant if one is running an older version.
I will say there is no worry to running older PE.
As I've said I used PE 5.0 and the 3 version. For sure the PE 5.0 with a Windows 10 restore.
Macrium mentions using RE, as others have here. I recall this conversation from before and I think we came to the conclusion that PE had better support for networking which most folks don't even use.
RE pulls the Recovery Environment of the OS you are booted to. That should be the most current and reliable. Not that others will not work, not saying that, but RE is the most current.
I've not tested that yet, but I'd expect the automatic resizing of partitions to be included in Free. In v7 you could already manually resize partitions in any edition including Free, so I don't see why automating it would be a Premium feature. I expect the Premium features in v8 to be much the same as they were with v7, Changed block tracking, Rapid Delta restore, Files/Folder backup, Incrementals, and so on. Their product comparison chart (currently for v7) is here.
Time is strangely silent in this case.
Anyway, did some testing of Recovery USB. When I set this to On, it will not boot properly with USB in UEFI mode although CSM in BIOS is set to Auto.
Although made with RE, when booting to USB it still starts in PE environment but has option to (press Escape),When I did that i continues to run.
Btw. It's nice feature that when booted from USB it automatically shows all last backups on all disks where there's one. (Last full and last of each Differential and Incremental). Now I don't remember if v7.xxxx did that. ?
