Yes, a licence is perpetual, there are some members still running licenced copies of v6.

But any v7 licence purchased after mid-November 2020 includes a free upgrade to v8 when it's released.

I thought those licenses were perpetual. How does it work, then? You have to renew every time there's a new Version (not just an update)? I only ask because I depend on MR so much and have used it successfully so many times for so many purposes that I'm thinking I really owe it to Macrium to pay for a Home license.

TIA for any help you can offer to clear this up for me.
The licence is perpetual for that major version, so a V7 licence will always work on a V7 build.

Oh, I see. I knew about the inclusion of v.8 in new subs now, but I didn't understand why magilla had renewed, since I thought his old license would be good for all new versions. Seems it's good forever for the version he originally bought, but doesn't entitle him to new versions (unless, of course, in a special offer like the current one that offers free upgrades to v8 for those who buy 7 now). That essentially right?

    Yes, spot on.

In addition, for those of us who bought our v7 licences too long ago to qualify, Macrium are expected to offer the v7 to v8 upgrade at a generous discount.

Sheesh!. I just started a system image back about one hour ago and the update was not offered to me. I didn't know about it either. Now, I will have to start all over again...What a drag!

Was not a big update, you are most probably safe with that one you just made.

Yep no real need. Have a look at the changelog if you are concerned.

When the update was offered today, the things they listed as corrected would have no effect on the quality of your recent backup.
