I don't do any fancy stuff with backups, simple full system disk backup, date is enough for me to know which it is. Usually keep just last 2 or 3 backups and manually delete .mrimg that's older than those. No names or notes.
This is how I did it last time.

After I deleted all Backup.xml files it made a new one which I will use next time.
I don't use the Backup.xml files even. I untick it. I find it easier for me to create a folder and name it and save the image to the folder. Much easier to find but that's my preference.

I have predetermined folders for all backups and each one has several backups in it.

I do the same thing except that I select “Prompt. . . “ so that I can enter a few brief notes describing what things have changed since the last backup. Those notes are displayed on the list of backup files and can provide information when you are trying to decide which backup you might to restore from.
Very well appreciated that you have brought that feature up ("prompt"). I have never used it before, but I really find it very useful to find which backup restore one has to pick. Sometimes, it is not always obvious.

I have put in the request now for scheduled backup verification.

I am also considering making my backup drive reFS for native bitrot hardening.

Scheduled backups can already be verified automatically. You just need to specify it in advanced options in the backup definition. Don't know anything about reFS.

    Is it Server stuff?

Perhaps I'm missing something TC but image verification is a function of MR. Ah you mean reFS.

Thats not what I requested, backing up right after the backup is made means its only verified at that moment, but bits can flip in the mean time, or sectors can later become unreadable.

Bitrot is essentially where data is initially readable, but then at a later point gets damaged or becomes unreadable.

Filesystems like reFS and ZFS can deal with it natively.

Ah, I see what you mean, scheduled verifications of existing images.

Ideally, any backup should be located away from PC to avoid catastrophe such as fire, flood etc.
Assuming media is removable and not a NAS then by their nature such backups would require manually validating subsequent to their creation assuming auto-validation is not configured
However, I also regularly backup to an additional HDD in my PC so these backups could be verified by a schedule
