And about time too! It always annoyed/puzzled me that I had to manually include it.....Legacy MBR Systems
- For MBR Windows 10 systems the 'Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows' now includes the Windows Recovery partition.
Thanks Dick and Cliff.
I keep having the MR update notifications to off. I don't need it, as here's my notification.
Ah... I believe that's what has become known as the "Macrium Effect".
Happens to me all the time. Shortly after I make a backup, updates suddenly become available for one or more of my installed programs. Macrium Reflect.... Firefox.... Thunderbird... etc.
I have Check for Updates turned off in Edit Defaults in Macrium Reflect and I just check manually from time to time or when I see an update posted in this thread.
Hmm...
Bug fixes and Improvements v7.2.4971 - 16th June 2020
Well, I don't need to worry about that. One of the first things I did after (clean) installing 2004 a couple of weeks back was delete the recovery partition. I have no need for it when I'm using Macrium Reflect. Mind you, Microsoft don't make it easy to remove, do they? (You have to use diskpart to get rid of it).For MBR Windows 10 systems the 'Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows' now includes the Windows Recovery partition.
I'm trying out the free version of Macrium Reflect, and it wasn't long before I encountered a serious bug.
I'm helping a friend with his computer, and he's been using Macrium Reflect Free to take regular backups, and his HDD failed. So I installed a new HDD (2TB, same as the old one). Then I installed Macrium Reflect Free on my computer, so that I could generate recovery media. Then I created the WinRE version recovery media .iso, and burned it to a CD. Then I booted it on my friend's computer, with the new (unformatted) HDD installed, and his USB backup drive plugged in.
I chose restore, browsed to his last backup, and selected it, then chose the unformatted new drive as destination. Then I clicked Finish, and Macrium Reflect gave me one last confirmation screen before it wiped out the "Backup Plus" drive.
Say WHAT?!? "Backup Plus" is my friend's USB backup drive. I did NOT tell MR to restore to the Backup Plus drive, I told it to restore to the unformatted drive!
I quit, and started over, and repeated the process, with the same result.
The USB "Backup Plus" backup drive is 2TB, and formatted exFAT. The new, blank drive is also 2TB, but it is intended to be an NTFS Windows 10 system drive.
I obviously could not let the restore continue, so I'm currently copying the backup drive onto a scratch drive, from which I intend to retry the restore.
I've heard good things about Macrium Reflect, but encountering a bug like this the first time I tried it does not give a good first impression.
Has anyone else encountered this bug?
I'm using AOMEI backupper free at this moment, but I'm not happy with it, because it crashes computer during the backup if I enable schedule backup.
Should I try this software instead?
My basic requirement is that backuper software could do backups of my whole disk every month, so if something happens to my Windows, I can easily restore it with my backup with all the games and apps installed like I had before. Right now, I'm doing backups manually with AOEMEI as it's schedule feature is bugged.
I have one question regarding this Macrium free edition - Will I have customization of retention rules in free edition? I would like to have 2 previous backups saved.
