I don't schedule backups because there is a cleanup routine to be completed before, as I don't want to save garbage.

In Macrium hat is a paid-for feature. The OP, according to the title, has the Free edition which does not include user file backups.

I use a flash drive to backup all my user files. Actually I use a second flash drive to also backup my user files. Double protection in case one of the flash drives happens to fail for whatever reason. I don't think you can use Macrium free to backup user files. I'd also like to mention how great this forum is and has been so much help over the years. Thanks to all of you!

You can backup the partition containing your user files so yes you can backup your user files in the Free edition. You can also mount any backed up partition as a virtual drive and recover those files / folders you wish.

I appreciate your input. I have no problem remembering to make a backup after any change to my system so I find scheduled backups not to be necessary in my case.

And I'm with Steve. The more I can automate, the better things run for me. That said, I am in the process of setting up a new system and this thread and the one pointed out by Bree will be a lot of help to me, I'm sure. I had help setting up MR on the old system, but this time I'm going to try doing it by myself . . . with help from TF if necessary.

Thanks, Mark, for letting me hang onto your coattails while we both learn!
