    Modified Macrium backup

    Dell Inspiron 15 5565, Win 10 Home

I want to create a Mactium backup, but it's going to be huge unless I can properly modify it. I tried to use a USB with 28gb free space as the destination, but it wasn't enough

My first question is can I just image the first 4 partitions, leaving out that 12.95gb image partition (recovery drive?), and the Dell support partition, and still restore that Macrium image without a problem?

Secondly, will shrinking that 906gb OS partition make the backup smaller, or will an Intelligent sector copy essentially do the same thing?

And if I shrink that partition, then I'll have enough space to store that image, but I'm a little anxious about doing it because if I mess something up I have no recovery option.

Also, if I can create the Macrium backup, can I delete that recovery partition?

Yes, you can omit that Image partition.

Shrinking unused space won't make backup any smaller. Don't store images on the same drive. Get an external hard drive and put them there. That's the point of having backups - if anything goes wrong (drives do fail) - you have working system in 20 minutes..

Just untick that Image partition and leave the rest.

Your backup is small by my standards - I use 1T /2T portable drives for backup. That 12 GB recovery partition is huge. What's stored there?

No matter what he does, he will never get that image onto a 28gb partition/drive as the OP stated ?? The OS partition usage is 90gb. There is NO compression that will get it down to 28gb.
