what is minitool? Does it make backup files for restoring Windows if it fails?

I assumed the poster was referring to the minitool image backup program - it is called shadow something. I fiddled with the beta version a while ago.

It was ok, but I saw no reason to switch from my favourites, Aomei Backupper and ( for some purposes) O&O

First if I am not mistaken, Memtest 86 does NOT work with a 64 bit system. IS this true?

I have made a decision. I have both EaseUS Todo and Macrium Reflect installed and backup images have been made. I just have to have confidence that the Macrium image is good even when it can NOT be confirmed. If it does NOT work then I would run EaseUS Todo.

For now I think this is best way to handle it for me.

The one thing I expect a PC to do is to do the same thing over and over and get the same results.

I just created an image with Macrium Reflect (after doing this about a dozen times) and ran the Verification and LO and BEHOLD it verified.

I don't understand this: it makes no sense at all.

    pbcopter - is there a stand-alone version of Memtest86?

compumind - The reason I have not bought new RAM is I don't know which stick is bad (if either or both). I was going to remove one stick and retest but one of the ears that locks the RAM in place broke off and I can NOT release that stick of RAM at present. I don't know if that can be fixed or not.

MemTest86+ IS standalone. You first make a bootable USB that has its own OS. Your Windows environment is not used during testing, in fact you can test a system that doesn't even have a hard drive fitted.

1: Go to the MemTest86+ website.
2: Scroll down to the Download (Pre-built & ISOs) section. Click on the Auto-installer for USB key (Win9x/2k/xp/7) link to download the Auto-installer tool.

The auto-installer is the tool that makes the USB, and that runs in any Windows from Windows 95 onwards.

You run it and provide it with a USB, it will make the bootable USB for you. Just boot from the USB to run the tests.

Can you post a close-up picture of the "bad" slot and the broken clamp? It might be possible to replace the clamp if the pivots are not broken off.

    Cheers!

Compumind - I am not qualified to even try to replace the locks on for the RAM. I do have a computer repair facility close by that I trust to do the work if they will take on the job.
