    Clone windows 10 hd

Once I am satisfied with my laptop set up (laptop #1), I want to clone the hd and put it in an identical laptop.
    HD's are identical.
The laptop (#2) that the cloned drive is going into has a valid Windows 10 install now, but it is has some corruption that apparently can't be fixed. So I want to remove it's hd, clone from good working laptop (#1) and reinstall in laptop #2.

Question is what about Windows 10 Product ID? I think I can change it in System settings. I don't want Windows to misbehave on #2 because it doesn't think it's a valid install.

#1 will be synced to #2 to ensure I have a second machine at the ready when and if I need it.

If it's a clone then both PC's are the same and it can cause problems connected to a network as both may have same Mac address and other settings

I just went through this yesterday with a machine that had a bad drive. It is quite easy to use a good machine and the MCT/Media Creation Tool to download either the .iso file used to create an exact copy of the original DVD or the Bootable USB drive [8GB through 32GB] and do a clean install on the bad machine. If there's problem with its drive they will show up, especially when doing the Format thing on an early phase of the install. Once a computer has had Win10 it will have a Digital License, either for the hardware or for the Microsoft Account [if used].

I d not want a clean install and lose all my apps and data. I want an exact copy. Just need to know exactly which settings, ie. Product ID, and MAC address (see previous reply) have to be made unique before the attaching to network.

It won't be a problem with the MAC address. You should change the computer name, however.

Thank you all for your for your replies. I feel confident I can clone the drive then before I connect to the network, change the computer name, create a new user and remove the cloned one. Then it should be good to go when I connect.
    Thanks again!

Sounds like a good plan. Just remember to make the new user an administrator before you delete the old one.
