Recover files from system restore from non bootable Windows

    Hi Friends

I have a crashed windows 7, tried all types of recovery but couldn't recover the operating system.

I need to recover files from system restore previous version. I have the folder system volume information on another computer, I need to mount or extract the data from this folder.
I'm aware of System Restore Explorer but it only works from a working windows, there's no option to browse for file location.

Anyone know a way to recover copied system volume information on another computer? The system volume information is copied to another computer.

    Regards

For Windows 7 please see our sister forum: Windows 7 Help Forums

To recover files some options are:

    Ubuntu
    Kyhi boot rescue

    Other options to consider are:
    regback
    reset save files equivalent

What type of file(s) and or file extensions are you attempting to recover from a system restore file?

Recovering files from a restore point or shadow copy I've not seen.
Restore points are used to recover the operating system at a prior time and not for personal file access.
If you find that you can use it in that fashion, please create a tutorial.

There are methods to recover files as per post #3.

Boot any Linux Live distro from a USB stick -- check that package ntfs-3g is installed which it is these days invariablly automatically installed and then simply use the file manager to copy files from source to target disks -- the Linux file managers all have a very similar interface to Windows explorer and the OS can read / write any file system.

You don't need to be a Linux Guru to use one of these --if you use something like Linux Mint live distro the interface is similar enough to windows for the job of copying files etc.

    Cheers

You can use Nic Bedford's System Restore Explorer to mount and extract files from any valid Windows restore point. It's a good tool, one I've used myself more than a few times.
