What space do I need for drive that receives Macrium backup data?

I downloaded the freebie version of Macrium Reflect, and attempted to make an image of the entire drive so I would be ready should I have a hard drive failure. I didn’t have adequate space in the drive that will store the image file, so will try later. How much space do I need?, I have a 2 TB drive in the computer, but currently use less than .5 TB. I’m making a single backup.

A guess would be roughly 1/2 of the occupied space, so in your case of near 500 GB, probably somewhere between 200 and 300 GB, but you won't know until you make the image. That's using the default compression level (medium). You could switch to high compression, but that usually doesn't shrink the size very much.

Reflect won't save pagefile.sys, nor hiberfil.sys, so if these are large, there's a saving there (but your PC spec says only 8GB - mind you, it also says you have a 2GB hard drive!). If you are prepared to risk it, do a disk cleanup first - you may have many GB of Windows updates hanging around.
