    Windows 10 Defender Disable

I've seen and read some threads here about how the system restore will not revert to a previous state.
I do have the Macrium Reflect (Licensed version) and it works well and it does a dandy job of restoring
from a complete backup...Having said that, I would like to of been able to use the M$ restore point
program but after trying to revert to a previous restore point, and watching the displayed verbage on my
monitor that windows is doing this that and the other then rebooting, I will always see the message on my
    screen:

I can CREATE a restore point however, it won't revert to a previous restore point and for reasons that the message states: try disabling antivirus program. So.... how would I do that i.e., disable defender if that is the
roadblock to system restore? I hate to have to dig out my external hard derive and go thru all the minutiae
when a few clicks on the window 10 restore point program would of rendered results a lot sooner. I use to run WIn 7 with Avast (on another computer) and most times disable it and I could restore to an earlier time successfully, Not so
with this Win 10 version. I have seen a program called rollback rx,
RollBack Rx Professional | Horizon DataSys Corporation
I tried the demo and it will allow only a few restore points the full version unlimited points, upon bootup.
it loads itself in the things to load menu first then then other stuff will load.
I wonder how can a second party create something that works that Microsoft should of done all along?

Something odd and interesting is going on with your Volume Shadow Copy Service. This shouldn't be happening. You might want to consider downloading and installing the free version of Macrium Reflect. It not only provides a free, usable, and more reliable alternative to restore points (e.g. image backups versus restore points) but the tool also includes a built-in "Fix VSS problems" facility (under the "Other Tasks" menu bar entry) that you can use to try to resolve VSS issues (which it sounds likely are lurking somewhere in the background of your problem -- I run Defender on most of my Win10 PCs and I've *never* had the kind of error you mention show up; the only other thing I can speculate is you might've run another AV program in the past and then failed to completely or fully uninstall that program when switching to Defender instead).

I doubt, it is Windows Defender causing it, most likely something else, maybe Protected folders.

Windows apps are and always will be basic. MS had the obligation to provide something, just so it would be there, to restore Windows, open pictures, play movies, etc. Imagine MS apps like a bicycle and 3rd party apps like Porsche, which can be even used for free. Whenever someone asks to deal with a problem with MS default apps, I ignore them, because I consider them to be trolls, because I can not believe, anyone would use MS apps willingly for anything. MS is like 5 years behind in development of everything, MS focuses on Windows and Windows only, they have fired like 1/3 of people lately, so it is only gonna get worse.

    Almost certainly.

It is a good idea but they didn't really think it through. Just look at forums for any game and check out the "I can't save to my documents" errors.

    Thanks for your input.
I previously mentioned that I have a licensed version of Macruim Reflect 7. Since this past Jan, I have
a new computer and installed win 10 on it. I use to run Win 7 with avast on an older computer. Just wanted to be clear on that. BTW, I did managed to disable defender yet, I could not restore to a previous point.
I can and have made a few image backups and restored them as well so Macrium works good. Never tried
    the incremental backups yet.
    (Sigh).......

@Butch73: that you have disabled Defender without fixing the VSS issues tells me that something is indeed amiss with your Windows runtime. Have you tried running
    Code:
    DISM /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth
to see if there's something amiss with your image? Have you tried the "Fix VSS problems" facility in Reflect? I'd suggest one or the other, if not both!

OK, that's good. Did you try the VSS fix in Reflect yet? If that finds nothing, I'd suggest digging into and possibly performing an in-place upgrade repair install a la @Brink's tutorial: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade.
