    AOMEI File Sync problem with each Windows Feature Update.


    I've encountered an issue with File Sync (which is like Windows own File History) where I find that each time a Windows Feature Update comes along, File Sync is broken and reports that it can not write to the destination.

    File Sync is set to run at 18:00 daily and it works faultlessly until the above occurs. Once this happens I find there is nothing I can do short of deleting the task and setting a new one. The task is 'editable' and yet even reselecting the correct destination doesn't work.

    I've no idea why this happens and am really looking for a bit of inspiration although I have also submitted a help request to AOMEI as well.

    Normal disk backups have no issue continuing after a Feature Update, just AOMEI's File Sync.

    I've made a weird discovery in trying to troubleshoot this, something that makes zero sense to me but perhaps does to others...

    I have File Sync backup changes to four folders, Docs, Music Pictures, and Downloads.

    Running File Sync manually returns the error mentioned in post #1 but I notice that the 'last updated' stamp on the desination folders contents (any one of the four folders backed up) has changed to the current time.

    I run the task manually again and now a second folder changes its last modified status to the current time.

    And again, and again. Now all four show they have been modified.

    After this, File Sync seemed to work and correctlhy backed up changes.

    More digging needed......

    I've submitted all this to AOMEI to investigate, however I can report that the scheduled sync task now ran correctly as do manual runs of the task.

    I restored back to a disk image made immediately after the Feature Update and was surprised to find that worked correctly.

    That implies the destination folders, once overwritten witha new time stamp and 'something else' are now valid as a file path for the version of Windows in use. Come the next Feature Update and it will surely be broken again though.

    Troubleshooting on the fly...... I'll update if I find any more out.

    Unfortunately for you, I'm probably the only other member here that uses Aomei. I have never tried the "Sync" feature in it. So I can't help. I assume your using the latest version of Aomei ? Ver 4.6.3 ? I think it was brought out last week. Good luck.

    Thanks I'm surprised more don't use it tbh.

    I'm actually on 4.6.2 so I'll have a think whether to upgrade or not. The one time I did upgrade which was probably around 12 months or so back caused an issue in that the program became really slow to open. In the end I just reverted back to a disk image made prior to the upgrade and left it at that.

    No big deal back then because I always clean installed each public release of Windows and so would simply clean install the latest AOMEI build at that time, but now... I'm running Insider Fast Lane builds and so clean installing just that isn't so appealing.

    I'll probably try it though and see what happens.
