The only issue is if Computer B has any kind of special drivers required to be loaded. Most don't, however, and the standard drivers included with WinPXE are all that is needed.
I've never tried this, but wonder if it would be smart enough to figure all this out on the fly? It does have Network drivers, so.... Hmmmmm

I have read that Microsoft has deprecated System Image Builder but has not set a date for its removal. I wonder if anyone knows if I can create a system image now, and then use the image even if I later can no longer create a system image with Windows.
I'm new to all this so any help you can provide will be appreciated.
It creates vhdx files. That is a format that other applications can deal with. If necessary you could use something else to restore the latest system image.

Quite the contrary, it performs flawlessly in all builds up to and including the latest 20H1 build (18885). It has never had a reliability issue during my use in any Win 10 build. The proof is in the pudding, so to say, try it and then ping back with your experience...it would be useful to hear how it performs for others...

It has saved my "bacon" more times than I can count over the last "decade"...
Drive snapshot is an endearing little thing. Just chuck it in winpe - it is tiny single executable and you don't need to muck around installing drivers. Many enthusiasts have been using it for years.

I am mostly interested in figuring out how to backup software programs. I recall how painful it was to make a list of all the programs I use so I could be sure they were put on my new PC. I am thinking ahead about when I will need to replace my current PC. I have an old Windows 7 system image which obviously wasn't kept up-to-date as I am now on Windows 10 Pro.

    Any suggestions?
Easeus do a program for that. I used it successfully to transfer installed programs.

Free download EaseUSĀ® Todo PCTrans Free

The free version only lets you transfer a couple of programs.

    A) Macrium Reflect. You will not regret it.

    B) To solve the task of making a "painful list", as you put it, and rightly so, there is no better total system snapshot of installed apps, keys, updates, etc. than Belarc Advisor. It's a must-have to run before any re-install. Free. https://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor

    siw2,

    Which other applications?

Some could cope with the vhd format [such as TI] but I haven't noticed any that could cope with vhdx.

Go to [Start, Windows system,] Control panel, Programs & features then take screenshots of the list. I do this twice - once in date order and once in name order.

Suggest you take a look at Easeus PC trans . It worked successfully for me a little while back.
