TODO Free Backup, and General Backup Questions

    Hello,

What a great Forum and folks.
Sure do appreciate all the help I've received.

Have a new HP Desktop running W10, and want to install
    a backup program on it.

Will purchase an external HD for it.

I see that: Best free backup software for Windows 10/8.1/8/7/vista - EaseUS® Todo Backup Free also called TODO,
is highly recommended, and is also free.

    a. Is this the one to go with among the free ones ? pros and cons ?

    b. Also, will it back up, initially at least, the complete program also, or only files, documents, photos, etc. ?

    c. If not, any way of backing up full programs, like, e.g., WORD, and all sorts of other programs I use ?

    Much thanks,
    Bob

Todo is ok but Macrium Reflect Free is better - faster, very reliable and flexible. See tutorial section for guidelines.

You can make full image backups with both including all programs.

I'll second that. Macrium Reflect has been my choice for many years. Read about it here -> Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

I never could get Macrium Reflect to work properly. Always threw up an error message. So I went with Todo backup. Works great and I'll never look elsewhere.

    Hi ram 1220, et al,

Guess I'll download and play with both of them.
And see which, at my very advanced age now, I can master best.

Am very desirous of being able to backup, fully, the full actual Programs I have, not just files, documents, etc.
Guess that's called an image backup. Right ?

Easy to do on Todo (talso) ?

    Regards,
    Bob

Yes. There are many imaging programs. most have free versions. If you keep a lookout, often they do giveaways of their Pro versions. They have different features, interfaces, etc. Depends what you prefer, and what your requirements are.

Free versions come from - Aomei Backupper, Todo, macrium, and others. O&O has a giveaway Pro version at the moment , etc, etc.

Some of them are simpler than others - which might be good thing if you don't want extra features - such as exclusions, or ablity to restore without overwriting anything else on the target - a choice of image formats, and so on.

Don't have a backup software recommend, but wanted mention how nicely the Samsung T5 drives are working for me as external backup drives. They're really fast and relatively inexpensive. They come with both a type-C cable and SuperSpeed Type A cable. I prefer the type-C connectors, but some computers may not have them.

You should try Macrium again and compare speed difference.

Nope. Always throws up an error message. And when I tried to get help I was told I was out of luck because I didn't have the paid version. That has turned me off to Macrium. I am very happy with Todo.
