Best USB drive for weekly backups?

I've been browsing around for USB sticks to backup important files to, and am completely lost in the entire market. I am looking for 256-512gb capacity, here are a couple i found. I have no idea what i should be looking for in USB sticks. Does anyone have experience and could lend me a hand?

    Lexar JumpDrive S75 256GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive - LJDS75-256ABNL (White): Amazon.ca: Gateway

    SanDisk 256GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive - SDCZ430-256G-G46: Amazon.ca: Gateway

I use Samsung "bar" USB drives for backups.

Samsung BAR Plus 32GB - 200MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive Champagne Silver (MUF-32BE3/AM)

Samsung 32GB BAR (METAL) USB 3.0 Flash Drive (MUF-32BA/AM)

I keep the backups in encrypted VHDX files.

Use a platter drive Pocket drive. USB sticks tend to fail more than hard drives.

I agree that a traditional USB flash drive is not at all ideal for a system backup. Personally, I would look at a USB 3 SSD:

It's great that you want to back up your important files.
At the same time consider creating system image backups also.

If you insist on a traditional USB "thumb drive", I'd try to avoid those with moving parts---typically a sliding mechanism that exposes the connector. That's just another point of failure on an already cheap and shaky contraption. Don't expect any of them to take much abuse---the casing can come apart in your hand.

And you have to decide on whether or not speed is a concern. There is a lot of variation among the candidates. If you are using this thing weekly, I'd guess that speed might be a concern.

At 256 gb and above, I'd probably lean toward an SSD of some type---possibly a traditional 2.5 inch standard SSD that might sell for as little as $30 or $40 and then buy a cable (for maybe $10) to connect it to a USB port.

SSD prices are dropping quickly as the price of DRAM continues to fall farther into the toilet.

Prices probably higher in the Frozen North.

Smaller SSDs are getting to be quite cheap nowadays. Ad a usb3 adapter or stick it in USB3 2.5" enclosure and you get lightning fast external storage that last far longer than traditional USB sticks and are not susceptible to breakdowns thru rough handling like mechanical HDDs are. Only drawback is size comparing to sticks.
Once M.2 drives hit lower prices sticks are going the way of dodo, there are USB C 3.1 enclosures for them which makes them just as fast as any internal SSD.
