I also have backups to the backups, but I take it 1 step further, the backup to the backup is Raid 1 !

But getting back to the issue, I assume everybody that has seen this issue has been verifying in-line ie: at the end of the backup ? Has anybody tried to re-verify using MR's manual verify ?
I do both but I do back up to an external drive but I have a Hot Swap Hard Drive unit that is internal. I will try it and see what happens.

Noticed I was havin problem on only 1 of 2 pc's. The only thing new about them wasd the Microsoft Edge DEV. I uninstalled it on the pc with the problem and it seems to have fixed my problem. I reinstalled Edge and all is still fine.

I also have a similar environment as @klepp0906. I do quick images to a 500gb EVO internal drive (Both with Verify on and off), and have not seen this issue. Macrium is at V7.2.4156, I also am current with KB4493509 installed. This is indeed a unique issue. What we need to do is find somebody with the exact hardware config ?

I did it on an internal HD WD Black, it was slower but it did not fail. I guess eSATA is faster than SATA II

The "DEV" is MS Edge latest chromiming thing (What ever that is). I also have it installed and have not seen any relationship between it and the problem at hand.

Yes eSata is much faster than internal Sata II (Almost as fast as USB 3.0).

I didn't see any association between the two but that was the only change to pc I had made. Can't say for sure but deleting and reinstalling seems to have fixed my problem.
