All rescue media not recognized

Created a CD as well as a thumbdrive in Macrium Reflect free ver 7. Each time it says successfully created rescue media but I cannot get my system to recognize either. Have to use F12 to tell it where to boot to MR but all the screen ever tells me is 'No OS found' or similar.

Damned confusing. Using the defaults, says it's building for the Windows RE environment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you got secure boot set?

Bios is set for: usb, then CD, then HDD. Not aware of secure boot. I'll have to research that. Mac Reflect obviously picks up that this is a legacy Bios system. So that can't be the reason. perplexing.

No, can't boot from the install usb stick. Maybe creating a Macrium Reflect boot option (from boot menu) hosed the boot loader. USB does work on other system.

Dalchina this doesn't make sense. It is an old Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 using a 2 core phenom. Boots fine to CD or W10 on the HDD. But won't boot to usb, even the W10 install flashdrive I used a few days ago. Weird.

As I understand it secure boot is a UEFI feature. I'll look in Bios re: any 'legacy' setting but it doesn't sound promising.

I checked the specs of his GA-790XTA-UD4 board and it uses a legacy/traditional BIOS chip (non-UEFI). secure boot is not available on non-uefi bios chips.

perhaps the macrium rescue media needs to be re-created again so that is recognizes just non-uefi (bios) systems

edit: and probably ask in the Macrium forums in the rescue media section on what to do

I know I booted into W10 on the HDD yesterday but today I get 'Boot loader is missing'. So mystery solved. Probably I got the error after switching drives.

But how do I restore the boot loader? If I can't get to the W10 Advanced Setup options (off the HDD) and no repair media yet I'll have to use UBCD or Hirens. But not sure what commands to run, what file(s) to fix.

I'll reacquaint myself w/ boot loader repair.

I tried UBCD and mini-XP to use command prompt and Bootrec /fixboot but that is not a recognized command. Not sure how I can get to Advanced Startup options on the W10 HDD if Bootmgr is hosed.

I'll try another option in UBCD. First order of business is to be able to boot to W10.

Found bootrec.exe /fixboot and used it from a Macrium Reflect disc I made for W7. For future readers that is the command to use in an environment associated w/Windows 7.

Don't know if simple bootrec /fixboot would have worked here (Mac Reflect CD should be OS ver agnostic when using DOS, I figure. But boot was set up for W10). That is the command for W8 +. That fixed BOOTMGR file. Boots fine now. So bootrec.exe should have worked from UBCD's mini-xp environment AFAIK.
