Windows system restore - taking 2 hours plus ?

Tried a system restore on 2 occasions today.

First session ran for over 2hrs with the screen saying "Please wait while etc etc".

Read that if runs more than an hour it may be frozen and suggests a hard reset of the device.

The second session is doing the same restoring for 2 hours plus.

Is this expected or an error/fault somewhere on the system causing it run more than an hour etc.

    1) What problems are there with the computer that you are attempting a system restore?

Once your back on the desktop:

    2) Open administrative powershell and type or copy and paste:
    3) sfc /scannow
    4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    5) chkdsk /scan
    6) get-computerrestorepoint
    7) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    8) Open file explorer > this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for: C:\Windows\Logs\SystemRestore
If the file is found then zip and post a share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

    Thanks for your reply,

I have solved my problem without the need of a System Restore.

Shall look into reasons as you've listed when or if I need a restore.

    Thanks

Glad that the problem is resolved.

If you have problems in the future let us know.

Making a backup image is more often useful than using system restore.

Great that your running again. But in the future as @zbook stated, image backups are much more reliable. Under Win7, "System restore" worked most of the time and saved my butt several times, But under Win10, it seems it the luck of the draw. Better to perform a quick image backup before you make any changes to W10.

PS: how about marking this thread as "Solved". It may help others.
