Can I have the creation dates and modified dates preserved on copying?

I want to backup some files, I find that if I just copy and paste, the copied files in the new location has the new creation and/or modification dates. Is it possible to preserve those "dates" as the original one?

Do your copying using the built-in utility RoboCopy.

RoboCopy is just a command. You were going to use a command to make your backups anyway. You simply use RoboCopy instead of whatever you were going to use.

    RoboCopy D:\Documents E:\Documents

There's a decent explanation in the link I gave you - RoboCopy.

You can also open a command window and enter
    RoboCopy /?
    to see its help page.

I have only just realised what you meant by your question.
    - Yes, you can use RoboCopy in Command prompts [Start menu, Windows system, Command prompt] and in batch files.
    - You can also use many commands directly in the PowerShell environment but I do not know if RoboCopy can be used this way or not.
