The op has W10 and a fairly new processor, I would have to assume his bios will support GPT.

It just dawned on me if the 3TB HDD would suit your needs

Windows support for hard disks that are larger than 2 TB

You might want to review that article and see if you want to stay with the 3TB HDD: you might want to exchange it for a 2TB HDD. I've haven't had to use a HDD greater than 2TB, but you could ask for advice if you have any questions about staying with the 3TB HDD.
I am using the 3TB NOT to BOOT with, only as a backup or storage. I would think using it for purposed stated would be

Okay....Just unpacked/setup my new 3TB OWC Mercury Elite Pro. Up front I had to format the HD
with a supplied format program (can format to Mac or PC) and had option of formatting with MBR
or GUID format. I went with the GUID (and as recommended). It looks like HD's over 2 TB should use
the GUID format per Windows 10 format instruction, See picture:

So far, every thing is working well and it is a very quiet and fast (7200 RPM) external HD.
