Macrium speed pretty impressive these days

I Have windows installed on a 230 GB SSD - windows size roughly 80 GB which images to 53 GB according to the Macrium screenshot.

Imaged to external USB 3 3TB (Toshiba passport self powered type of drive) from standard HP Envy laptop with i5 cpu.

11 Mins - so why people never backup is really beyond me -- the laptop I was backing up isn't by any means top of the range either and the i5 in the laptop is one of the earlier cpu's of that vintage too.



OK having system installed on an SSD helps (the price of 230 GB or so SSD's has dropped to almost nothing (or around 40 EUR) so it makes sense even on old computers to install an SSD for the OS -- in fact performance gain will be noticed much more on older hardware anyway.

If people can't spare around 15 mins to backup their systems regularly with decent FREE reliable software then can they really expect people to go over backwards to fix their machines !!!!!

Are the drives "Sata6" connections or "PCIe x4" ? Also did you have verify on ?

Your calc is good, but you have typo in your message "53 MB" vs reported "53gb". The reason I am questioning is because of the reported transfer rates. I have a output image size of 27gb and it takes just over 3 min to complete (4.5 min with verification). Using your calc's, I get 150 MB/s, but I never register any of the thruput #'s like his. Hardware config is important.

external USB Toshiba (USB3) 3TB passport size drive (pocket size) --- uses 1.0A though @5V but laptop can drive it. The unit doesn't have external separate power supply. The drive is 7200 rpm with decent cache which helps throughput. The Internal SSD I don't know as I've never opened the laptop - but it's a thin one so I'd imagine the SSD could be one of those "Card things" -- it's fairly old though so probably a conventional SATA SSD. I don't bother with verify on for imaging--- If system is faulty it will show up soon enough !!!!!

Anyway I'm happy with Macrium -- support is excellent too -- I remember when the first 1803 / 1809 builds were coming out there was a problem with Macrium and the guys fixed it over a weekend !!!

Never had any reliability problems with Macrium --free edition is probably good enough for about 85 - 90% of people out there.

OS with 14GB , complete backup in 5 minutes (incl. verifying ) , OS=SSD , backup goes to internal and external HDDs .
Some months ago it took me 15 minutes for the same operation , with a previous Macrium-version !
I hope Macrium takes accuracy in the first place ( speed second !)...............

Yes, Macrium numbers are different. I use the MB/s to compare with other imaging programs. In my slow hardware (no SSDs, no UASP in the mobo), the highest number I have registered is 117 MB/s, when backing up to external USB 3.0 disks.

Results are highly variable, even from one operation to the next, hardware and everything else being the same, and working from boot media. Some enclosures produce very consistent results, some don´t (different USB-SATA chips). But, in general, Macrium 7.2.x is much faster than previous Macrium versions.

OK folks... what version of Macrium Reflect Free are we talking about? (in case it's time for me to update... )

Does everyone automatically update to whatever new version is released or, like me, stick with what works for fear that newer version may not...)
