My 2 x 4TB WDC USB 3 drives came formatted as exFAT, noted on the package as usable with PC and Macintosh [Mac OS X had issues writing to NTFS but could read it]. I connected them and reformatted as NTFS before putting data on them, my MacBook Pro had died earlier. I don't think the formatting can be changed without losing the data on them but since yours are used as backup storage that wouldn't be bad, just reformat the exFAT to NTFS and create a new backup. Linux can work with either format and several more.

I will continue to use Macrium.
I wonder in theory if I formatted the exfat drive to NTFS and copied the similar data from the other drive which is NTFS and contains the same data to this newly formatted drive which is now NTFS.

I think it is best to create a new backup on the changed drive rather then simply copying one to the other, two reasons, one is backup programs usually have markers as to where their data is and the other is a new backup should be faster than copying drive to drive.

I agree with the system images.
What about music, photos, and Docs?

Well that is where OneDrive comes in or any other cloud sync Like Google, along with file versioning.

"What about music, photos, and Docs?"

Those should be part of the Image assuming you have selected the partitions concerned when doing the Image, and can then be extracted from the Image if needed. Assuming a Macrium Image.

You can of course copy those Folders/Files to an external Drive, Optical, HDD, Flash drive whatever or indeed OneDrive as well if you wish. Thus 2 copies or more. Entirely up to you.
