Built-in System Restore fails

    However, as said before in such discussions, one has to be aware of the difference in restoring a partition and using a restore point. A partition is everything- could be data and installed programs, with no idea as to what has changed bar any personal record you keep when restoring one. System Restore doesn't touch data, and lists affected programs, so it's very unfortunate MS doesn't seem bothered about its defects.

    Rollback RX (free Home edition only protects the system drive, comment says not to use on a SSD) and Farstone RestoreIT (commercial) are two possible options. Any others?

    True - that is a significant reason for keeping data separate from C drive. I only image the C drive plus hidden partitions. Other drives are backed up by more conventional tools (I just use File Explorer and Onedrive mostly).
