I deleted ALL restore points > created a new one after that > ran the system restore > failed as before.

I am not going to be bothered trying to fix it.
I have run the built-in system image restore ( I do the built-in system image backup regularly ) and it works.
    So, that's my Plan B.
Did you try restore within safe mode? Did you get the same outcome?

No, I did not, because even if it works in safe mode, it does not solve the problem of NOT being able to do the same thing in "regular" mode.
I'll be damned if I have to go to safe mode every time I need to do a system restore.
I know it works better in safe mode, but that is not the point.

Thank you for you help and suggestion.

Huge thread on Appxstaging and System Restore:
System Restore fails: AppxStaging %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApp 0x80070091 - Windows 10 Forums

    albeit different error number.

    Your error number: e.g.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ere-is-encrypt

    System Restore Point errors: 0x8007045b and 0x80070057 - Page 2 - Windows 10 Forums

Which Windows build are you using?

    Search text for you:
    appxstaging system restore 0x8007045b

Do you use third party anti virus (Norton, Malwarebytes)? Often these come with a self protection mode which prevents system restore from working, hence why I made my suggestion, if it had worked then that would suggest the anti virus/anti malware is preventing the restore.

    No 3rd party AV.

Try Rollback RX if S Restore isn't your cup of tea. And yes, I know you didn't want any fancy backup tools. Well, you've got one anyway- the nearest freeware/licensed tool to SR.

In simple terms - system restore is an unreliable POS. Imaging tools are far reliable and quicker.

I agree. That's why it's disabled on my PCs and no storage space wasted on restore points. I rely on frequent Macrium backups. They have never failed me.
