    Built-in System Restore fails

    Win 10 ver 1809 build 17763.253

Running the built-in System Restore but fails to complete.

I wonder if anyone has the same problem or it's my computer's problem.

P.S. I am not interested in those fabulous 3rd party backup program(s).
I just want to find out if this problem is due to build 17763.253.

    Thank you.

Hi, do you mean creating a restore point - which should normally succeed- or using a created restore point - which is well known to be unreliable?

What failure indication do you receive? Anything in the event log?

As dalchina asks, please clarify whether you mean using System Restore to create or apply a restore point, or the built-in Backup & Restore to create or restore a system image.

Is your 17763.253 x86 or x64? I have both available to test, once I know exactly what it is I should be testing

If you’re trying to restore then try within safe mode.

Eventually users may have to start using third party backup software if Microsoft fully remove their own backup facility.

I meant applying system restore using a previous restore point.
It started the process but eventually restarted back to my desktop informing that it did not complete the restore and that nothing had changed.

    It is a 64-bit OS.

That's unfortunately very very common. You should see an error number which you can research either in this forum or elsewhere. You can try starting System Restore from outside Windows (boot from Win 10 boot disk) or from Safe Mode.

Tested successfully in x64 1809, 17763.253. I created a manual restore point then restored it.

Edit: and could also restore its earliest previous restore point.

Apparently, the problem is on my Mini PCs.
I have 2 Win 10 mini pcs ( I don't use laptops or desktops anymore.)
Beelink 64-bit and Intel Compute Stick 32-bit. They both fail to complete system restore.

I also have a MS Surface 3 and system restore completed successfully.

The error number may give you a clue - use that in a search.

From my Intel Compute Stick 32-bit.

    Built-in System Restore fails-system-restore-fail.jpg

I deleted ALL restore points > created a new one after that > ran the system restore > failed as before.

I am not going to be bothered trying to fix it.
I have run the built-in system image restore ( I do the built-in system image backup regularly ) and it works.
    So, that's my Plan B.
