Unable to create a recovery drive by Recovery Media Creator

I tried to create a recovery drive on Dell Inspiron 13 7000 according to these instructions. My OS is Windows 10 build 1803 17134.523 (why this cannot be copied?!)

The USB key is a brand new 16GB Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3, checked for errors, formatted first with NTFS, then FAT32 for 2 failed attempts.

The work sequence was as described in the video clip on YouTube.
The result: 'A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive'. After this error the USB key contained unallocated space.

    Do you have any suggestions?

@Steve C, @academica is trying to create a standard Windows 10 Recovery Drive usb, not a Macrium one.

Creating a recovery drive does not require any existing format on the usb, but it almost certainly does require the usb to have an MBR partition layout. I've not tested making a recovery drive usb, but the Media Creation Tool will certainly fail to make a usb if the one you give it has an existing gpt partition table. As the OP discovered, the usb will be left with unallocated space after the failure.

I have now confirmed that the Media Creation Tool fails with error code 0x80004005 - 0xA001A if the USB you ask it to use has a gpt partition...

...after failure, the USB is left 'unalocated'. You can create a new simple volume using Disk Management to make it accessible again but, critically, its is STILL using a gpt partition layout. Only DISKPART or a tool like MiniTool Partition Wizard can make it MBR again.

Try another usb that you have NOT reformatted in any way, or use Diskpart or MiniTool Partition Wizard to convert the problem usb to an MBR layout.

Thank you a lot for pointing the reason for the failure. I did convert the USB pen drive from GPT to MBR and the creation started. However it started about 50 minutes ago and the job is half done. I wonder why it takes so long and which of the 7 partitions will be copied. Before I did a full recovery image of the whole disk by Macrium Reflect in just 9 minutes.
