Do you prefer incremental or differential backups?

Also, what features of the SyncBackFree program do you like that makes it superior to the traditional drag & drop backup method?
I use SyncBackFree to back up about 800 GB of data files--I run it a couple of times per day. Takes about 3 minutes to complete, using standard internal hard drives as both the source and target.

Drag and drop of that same data takes about 3 hours---I do that very occasionally as well.

That's because SyncBackFree is configured to do a new back up of only those files that have been added or modified since the last time it was run. It examines the source files and compares that list to a list of what already exists on the target. Only the different files are then backed up to or deleted from the target.

Drag and drop typically involves ALL files in the chosen folders and thus takes a lot more time.

Additionally--SyncBackFree profiles can be run with a single click. No need to examine or select individual folders. You can make and run multiple profiles separately if you want. Perhaps one for video files and another for MP3s or whatever---possibly depending on criticality. The program gives you a high degree of control over what to include or exclude.

I usually consider a backup to be something stored offline or something protected from alteration.

SyncBackFree is definitely protecting against a drive failure but does it have anything that would prevent an attack from getting at both copies? Would be definitely interested if it did.

I perform a full backup with Macrium one time a week to a external hard drive to keep it outside the OS, easy and quite fast

    Nice simple workable plan.

I create a full image once a month, then incremental the rest of the weekdays but have Macrium create a differential every Monday.
On occasion I’ll create a full backup/image if I’ve made major changes like a repair install of Windows.
