I use SyncBackFree to back up about 800 GB of data files--I run it a couple of times per day. Takes about 3 minutes to complete, using standard internal hard drives as both the source and target.
Drag and drop of that same data takes about 3 hours---I do that very occasionally as well.
That's because SyncBackFree is configured to do a new back up of only those files that have been added or modified since the last time it was run. It examines the source files and compares that list to a list of what already exists on the target. Only the different files are then backed up to or deleted from the target.
Drag and drop typically involves ALL files in the chosen folders and thus takes a lot more time.
Additionally--SyncBackFree profiles can be run with a single click. No need to examine or select individual folders. You can make and run multiple profiles separately if you want. Perhaps one for video files and another for MP3s or whatever---possibly depending on criticality. The program gives you a high degree of control over what to include or exclude.
