    Macrium Boot Menu Question

    I am using MR Free V7.2.3957 to do system images and have invoked the Boot Menu option.
    I have had to use this option to restore my system before with no problems.

    I looked at my Rescue Media settings and it shows "Windows PE10 Release 1607'.
    But when I hit 'winver', I'm on Ver1803?

    So I removed my boot menu via MR and re-created but MR gives me Release 1607 again as boot Menu? Why?

    Shouldn't my Boot Menu settings show V1803 now? Am I doing something wrong?

    The PE version is the latest Macrium found that was available in the Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK). You're fine. It's not suppose to necessarily match the OS version you are running. The rescue environment boots up as a separate OS, with just enough to get the job done. You're fine.

    I chose to use the RE recovery environment which is offered when building recovery options using the latest versions of Reflect

    Thanks @f14tomcat

    This begs the question > How then do I know when I should update the Boot Menu?

    @Steve C
    I have never heard of RE recovery? What is the difference / advantage?

    You do not need to update the Boot Menu..
    What is Updated is the Boot Media..

    Kyhi (post above) is correct in the technical definition of your question. The Boot Menu is simply a menu, a display to choose what you want to do. But I'm pretty certain you're using the term interchangeably with the concept of "My Boot Stuff", the things that make it go and do what you want. So, in your terms, Boot Menu and Boot Media are functionally equivalent, not the same internally, but it's what you see. All the stuff that makes it go and startup. In that light, back to your question, when Macrium issues an update to their software, it's always a good idea to check the option up top of the main screen under "Other Tasks" , "Create Rescue Media". If there are newer versions, you will be prompted to download them. Some say it is not necessary to update the Media/Menu each time (not that often) Macrium issues an update, maybe not always, but I like to keep everything in sync. The MR version, the Thumb/DVD, and the Boot Menu Media. Takes little time.

    NOTE: The Boot Menu (it's underlying Media that is the Rescue Environment) is always created first before the Thumb/DVD. If you were to try to create a new Thumb/DVD on a new MR update first, it would prompt you to create the Boot Menu Media Rescue Environment first.

    One thing that is not always understood is that if you get an upgrade to Windows 10, updating the winre partition, Reflect will note the media need to be upgraded as well. This is different to the PE version which does not do this.

    Hmm, this is good to know. The last boot media I created manually with macrium was using PE v1803. Haven't downloaded the 1809 adk files yet to create that version. 1803 works great with the split partitioned usb drive I created for this purpose.
