    Macrium Reflect had a problem

A few weeks ago I created an image of my C-drive on an external drive. It is still there, I can see it in .

This morning I tried to restore the image to my PC. Macrium does NOT see the image for some ungodly reason. That seems to be my luck ever since I got Windows 10.

Does Windows 10 have a backup and restore function? If so how reliable is it?

I think that MS depreciated it. What version of MR are you using? Was this image made using Windows 10 or 7?

You say you can see the image on the external HD. Have you tried to mount the image for inspection.

Check these choices on the restore screen. The drive letter may have changed.
    Try Browse 1st.

Stitch194 I have no idea how to mount a file
Phone Man I check every drive for the file. MR sees the folder I made the file in but NOT the file itself.

I tried to make an image using the built in backup system in Windows. That went over like lead balloon.

According to the built in backup system my C drive (Windows 10 installed) there are errors on that drive. When I run sfc /scannow, it says everything is just fine.

When the built in says it has errors on C drive, it does give the option to find and fix the errors. That option when selected does not seem to do anything.

Yes, there's a 'create system image' option in 'Backup & Restore (Windows 7)'. No, it's not very reliable. Yes, it is a deprecated feature now.

How exactly did you create the image that you made 'a few weeks ago' ? If you used Macrium to make the image it will be a single file with a .mrimg file extension.

If you used the built-in Windows system imaging it will be multiple files in a sub-folder the same name as your PC in a folder called WindowsImageBackup on the external drive. Macrium cannot restore windows own system images, only Windows itself can (and then it too can have problems seeing its own images).

If it is a Macrium image and you have Macrium installed on the PC, then you can mount a .mrimg image by double-clicking on it, or right-click and select 'Explore image'. Either way, you'll be able to choose a partition from the image and mount it as a virtual drive with a drive letter of your choice.

Macrium has an extensive help file.

You could also ask an appropriate question using a search engine to discover such things.

Before I get too deep into this, I need go back and take a look at a good tutorial for Macrium Reflect. I may have and probably did make a mistake somewhere along the line. The person I got this PC from had made a couple images and stored them on the second hard drive. Macrium sees those just fine.

    @huffman

The tutorial here on TF is good, although it may not have been updated with the changes to version 7.2.

And the version 7.2 complete knowledge base from Macrium contains all there is to know:
